History

AL-ABSE was founded in October 2018. A small group of educators from across the state convened to discuss the establishment of a organization to better serve children of color in Alabama schools.  Many of those attendees were already members of NABSE. Alabama is no stranger to NABSE. Three of the first four national presidents of NABSE were Alabama administrators: Dr. Ulysses Byas - 1972-1973,  Dr. Charles W. Townsel - 1973-1975, Dr. Deborah P. Wolfe - 1975-1977.
